Extending his dominion over much of Europe and establishing feudal institutions everywhere, he reconstituted the Western Roman Empire and, on Christmas day in the 19th century, was crowned emperor by Pope Leo III. The Middle Ages was a historical period that followed the end of the Western Roman Empire and reached the end of the 15th century. It is customary to have it started in 476 a.D., the year in which Odoacer deposed the last Western emperor, Romulus Augustulus, and ended with 1492, the date of the discovery of America. The early Middle Ages were characterized by the barbarian kingdoms, by the foundation of the Holy Roman Empire and by the triumph of feudal society; the late Middle Ages, on the other hand, saw the development of free communes, from the crisis of feudalism to the rise of the free lords of Italy.

That of the Habsburgs was a family of Alsatian origin, the progenitor of which dates back to the second half of the 10th century. This family became important, later, for the extension of its possessions. Rudolph IV succeeded Frederick II of Swabia in the crown of emperor of Germany and in 1282 he crowned the duchy of Austria; his heir, however, did not have the crown which returned to the Habsburgs only in 1438, when with Albert V the imperial dignity passed to the family and remained until the mid-18th century. During the Renaissance they played a very prominent role in European politics and reached the pinnacle of power with the Emperor Charles V (1519-1556). Maria Teresa, the last of the family, by marrying Francis Stephan, Duke of Lorraine, gave rise to the Habsburg-Lorraine family, who reigned in Austria-Hungary until the Italian victory of November 4, 1918.

The vikings were an ancient people of Norway and Sweden, skilled navigators and pirates; on their ships they managed to cross enormous distances, even reaching America. Numerous legends were created about them, but they actually seem to have been the direct ancestors of the Normans. Of this people the brilliant personality of William, called "The Conqueror", assumed the guide in 1034, as Duke of Normandy and, in 1066, landing in England, he defeated Harold III in the Battle of Hastings; in this way he was crowned King of England in Westminster, imposing Norman feudalism, the Norman dynasty and the royal control of the local Church.

NAPOLEON BONAPARTE EMPEROR
Unique Chess Set, made in Bronze by lost wax process technique, finished using Real Gold 24 Karat. Each piece is signed by the Sculptor. The Chess Board is made in Onyx and Bronze with a frame in bronze and real gold.
Promoted to brigadier general in 1794, Napoleon was in command of the artillery in the Italian army and after only two years he obtained the supreme command of the "Italian Campaign". Revealing himself here as a great leader and a skilled negotiator, he stumbled upon the "Egyptian Campaign" against the English power. With the coup d’état (1799) he acquired more and more prestige and consent and, having been appointed First Consul, with dictatorial powers, in a short time he managed to be crowned Emperor and King of the French in 1804, also assuming the title, the following year, of King of Italy. Coalitions against Napoleon began to be numerous: concern about the growing French power grew more and more. However, the "Russian Campaign" was disastrous due to the tenacity of the Tsar, which succeeded in making Napoleon's allies converge on Paris: he was forced to abdicate, renouncing for himself and his children the thrones of France and of Italy and to accept exile on the Island of Elba. However, this prodigious star did not end his days here, but in Sant ‘Elena, where he was exiled and deported, after having tried, in vain, to put his strength and his fame, which has now definitively waned, into play.

Unique Chess Set, made in Bronze by lost wax process technique, finished using Real Gold 24 Karat. Each piece is signed by the Sculptor. The Chess Board is made in Onyx and Bronze with a frame in bronze and real gold.
The "Song of the Nibelungs" (Nibelungenlied) seems to have been the major medieval germanic epic, composed - it is thought - by a bavarian clergyman in the first half of the thirteenth century. The elements and characters of the poem are partly fantastic, partly legendary and partly historical. There are narrated the deeds of the hero Siegfried, who takes possession of the treasure of the Nibelungs, a fantastic lineage of dwarves. This saga acquired European notoriety in the nineteenth century, when Richard Wagner made it the subject of his tetralogy "The Ring of the Nibelung"

FLORENTINE RENASSAINCE XV CENTURY
Unique Chess Set, made in Bronze by lost wax process tecnique, finished using Real Gold 24 Karat. Each piece is signed by the Sculptor. The Chess Board is made in Onix and Bronze with a frame in bronze and real gold.
The Renaissance, before being that historical period that fully invested the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, was a new climate which, first arisen in Italy and then spread widely throughout the world, laid the foundations of modern European civilization. The longing for a political restoration and the return to the "studia humanitas" and the art of the ancients was the first and most striking manifestation of a complex phenomenon; new religious, social, philosophical and political ideals were clarified and a new civilization on the glories of the past was moving its steps. As in the past, Italy became a beacon for other nations and found in the Renaissance one of the greatest moments in its history.

Unique Chess Set, made in Bronze by lost wax process technique, finished using Real Gold 24 Karat. Each piece is signed by the Sculptor. The Chess Board is made in Onyx and Bronze with a frame in bronze and real gold.
The great "Sun King" began in the second half of the 17th century. an absolute and personal government in France with the collaboration of its ministers. The kingdom expanded, acquiring Alsace, Flanders and France Comté, but the ambitious will of Louis XIV was fully manifested also in internal politics: he increasingly centralized the power of the monarchy, persecuted protestants and jansenists and fought with the Papacy for the autonomy of the Gallican Church. His name is closely linked to the culture of the time which he encouraged with the construction of academies and the protection of the arts, not to mention the splendid court of Versailles. He worked hard enough to intrinsically link his fame to the century in which he lived, what the French, rightly, call the "century of Louis XIV" or "Great Century".

THE MOORS IN SPAIN (VIII CENTURY)

Between the VII and the VIII century. a.D. the Arab empire experienced the period of its maximum expansion: the conquest of the western territories was started at the time of the first caliphs, managing to occupy the entire northern Egyptian-Libyan region. After a few years of stasis, the expansion resumed in the second half of the seventh century. and managed to reach the Atlantic. In 711, with the expedition to Spain, the Arabs succeeded in overthrowing the kingdom of the Visigoths and, from here, they proceeded from victory to victory towards southern Gaul. Their desire for conquest was, however, arrested in the battle of Poitiers by Charles Martel, who, in 732, thus succeeded in averting the immanent danger of Muslim dominance for the West.
